Revolutionizing Healthcare Logistics

When medical samples like blood or urine are transported to a testing lab, changes in outside temperature can ruin about 30 to 40 percent of them. To solve this massive problem, founder Sourav Karmakar created InfinosTech Pvt. Ltd., a startup proudly incubated at CIE, IIIT Hyderabad. Together, his team built DiagnoSmart™, which is a smart, portable container system designed specifically to collect and transport medical samples safely while being kind to the environment.

The DiagnoSmart bag makes sure that every single blood, urine, and stool sample stays at a perfectly safe, cool temperature (between 2 and 8 °C) from the moment it leaves a patient’s doorstep until it reaches the testing lab. By keeping the temperature steady, the bag reduces sample damage by about 35 percent. The most amazing part is that it does all of this without needing to be plugged into a power source and without using traditional plastic ice packs that just melt and get thrown away.

Instead of electricity or melting ice, the system uses special organic cooling pads that can keep things cold for over 15 hours. The bag is also cleverly designed with two completely separate compartments inside. This means a delivery driver can carry one sample that needs to be kept cool and another that needs to be kept freezing cold (sub-zero), all in the exact same bag.

To make sure everything stays perfectly safe, the bag features a built-in smart tracker that connects to a mobile app. This app lets hospitals and labs track exactly where the bag is and what the temperature is inside, sending automatic alerts to their phones if anything starts to go wrong. On top of that, the bag is lightweight, tough to break, features UV light sanitization, and can be easily carried on bikes, electric vehicles, or even delivery drones.

This new technology is not only good for patients but incredibly good for the environment. By removing the need for single-use throwaway ice packs, these smart bags can stop about 500 tons of plastic waste from entering landfills every single year. It also helps remote and rural areas get much more reliable access to medical testing. The bags are already being used in the real world, with successful test runs completed at Yashoda and Rainbow Hospitals.

They have even successfully tested delivering these smart bags using flying drones in partnership with IIIT Hyderabad Robotics Labs. Because of this amazing work, InfinosTech recently won a major Startup Grand Challenge award for sustainable and smart packaging.
